These Almshouses for the widows of Naval Officers were founded by Queen Adelaide in memory of William IV about 1837. They are in Tudor Gothic style. Red brick with a diaper pattern of grey headers. Slate roofs with groups of octagonal red brick chimneys. Casement windows. 4-centred doorways with carved spandrels. The buildings are in 3 blocks of 2 storeys forming 3 sides of a courtyard. The centre has 6 windows and 6 gables, the sides 3 windows and 3 gables each. Royal Arms of William IV in the centre.
