Description
A terrace of six houses, numbers 1-9, located on the north side of Ennismore Gardens in the City of Westminster, was built in the mid-19th century. The houses are constructed with a Portland stone facade, with the central and end houses projecting slightly. They rise five storeys plus basements, and some have mansard attics. Each house has a width of three windows. Corinthian projecting porches provide entrances on the right-hand side of each property. The ground floor features channelling, and a continuous cast iron balcony runs along the first floor. First-floor windows are pedimented, while the second-floor windows have cornices with segmental heads. All windows have architraves, and the glazing includes a mix of sashes and casements with plate glass. A modillion cornice sits above the fourth floor, complemented by cast iron area railings. The south facade also holds architectural interest. The terrace forms part of a cohesive development that surrounds the garden square on four sides.
