Description
Great Thurlow Hall is a fine 18th-century house, originally built of red brick but now faced in stucco. The building has three storeys and features a five-window range on each of its fronts, with double-hung sashes that include glazing bars. The central part of each of the north-west, south-west, and south-east fronts slightly projects forward and is topped with a pediment. The north-west front includes a stuccoed entrance portico supported by coupled Ionic columns, leading to a six-panel double door with a fanlight. The south-west front is adorned with Ionic pilasters that extend through all three storeys. There is a long stable wing to the north-west, which is two storeys high and has large stable doors, also featuring Ionic pilasters and a pediment. The roofs are covered with slate. Inside, the hall boasts a fine staircase with turned balusters, three to a tread, and carved strings, along with notable 18th-century fireplaces. Great Thurlow Hall is part of a group that includes the Church of All Saints, Church Farm Cottages (Nos 1 and 2), barns at Church Farm, and other nearby structures.
