Description

Badley Mill House is a house, originally a mill-house, dating from the 17th century, with alterations made in the 18th century and around 1980. It is a one-story building with attics and has a three-cell plan, with an additional cell added to the right in the 18th century. The structure is timber-framed and plastered, resting on a plinth of tarred red brick, with gabled, plaintiled casement dormers. The windows are casements, and there is a panelled entrance door, both dating from around 1980. The timber framing is typical of the 17th century, featuring on-edge floor joists. The hall contains an open fireplace with a large, reused cambered lintel. An 18th-century extension to the right includes a cellar with fine, deeply roll-moulded ceiling joists and beams from the early 16th century. These beams are similar to those found at Badley Hall, whose open hall and parlour range was demolished in 1759, with components sold off.
