Description
Longwood House is a timber-framed and plastered house dating from the 16th to 17th centuries, located on Stoke Road in Nayland with Wissington. It was significantly altered in the 18th century and later. The west end features a cross wing with a modern date panel indicating 1610. This cross wing is jettied on the upper storey and has two storeys and attics. The main block has one storey and attics on the north side and two storeys on the south. Most windows are double-hung sashes with glazing bars, except for one leaded casement on the north front. A small projection is built into the angle where the main block meets the cross wing. The roof is tiled and features a large gabled dormer on the north front. The main block retains a fine original chimney stack with three grouped octagonal shafts, spurred caps, and moulded bases. The cross wing has a restored chimney stack with four grouped octagonal shafts, moulded caps, and bases.
