Description

Red Hall is an early 18th century farmhouse, with later additions. It is constructed of brick and has a black pantile roof. The building comprises a three-storey main block and a lower service wing to the rear, forming an L-shaped plan. The main block has a symmetrical facade of three bays, accentuated by giant, rusticated pilasters. The centre bay is narrow. Most of the windows are modern metal and wooden frames, although two original mullion and transom two-light windows survive in the top storey, dating from around 1800. The original long openings in the outer bays were reduced around 1800, and skewback arches with painted keystones were added. The original front door, consisting of raised and fielded panels, remains, set within a fine doorcase of an eared architrave, a pulvinated frieze and a moulded cornice. The roof is hipped, with a pair of stacks positioned just behind the ridge.
