Description
The former lodge to Christ's Hospital School, now used as offices, dates from the early 19th century and has undergone some alterations in the 20th century. It is constructed of red brick laid in Flemish bond, with the south wall partly refaced. The building features a Welsh slated hipped roof with lead roll hips and ridge, topped with a corbelled brick cornice. A central red brick chimney has oversailing courses and four pots, three of which are pale yellow with rim tops.
On the south elevation, there are late 20th century multi-pane wood sash windows on the first floor left-hand side and the ground floor right-hand side, both set under brick soldier arches. The centre of the first floor displays a carved Portland stone cartouche featuring the armorial bearings of the City of London. The east elevation has a blocked ground floor gatekeeper's doorway beneath a rubbed brick segmental arch, with a splayed corner and a single sash window on both the first and ground floors, also beneath rubbed segmental arches. There is a late 20th century gabled porch with a Welsh slated roof.
The interior has not been inspected. This building is included for its group value as part of the Christ's Hospital complex.
