Description

Hadham End is an early 18th-century house, extended in the late 19th century, with alterations made to the south end in 1929, and a modern rear extension. Originally a small timber-framed house with plaster walls and one-and-a-half storeys, the front now has a red brick facing, originally on the west elevation but now extended upwards as a dormer on the north half. The house has an old red tiled roof with a steep pitch. A former gable chimney at the north end is now central to a red brick range added in the late 19th century, which has a lower ground floor and therefore appears two-storied. This later range has a central chimney. It features irregularly placed mullioned timber casement windows; three-light windows are located below, while a four-light window is in the front dormer, all with rectangular leaded glazing. The interior of the south end includes a chamfered axial beam and a fire lintel with exposed squared joints. Art Nouveau cast iron fireplaces are present in the northern part of the house. It represents an historic timber-framed house.
