Description

The water pump located next to No. 5 on Bluecoat Avenue in Hertford dates from the early 19th century. It is made of cast iron and designed in the style of a Tuscan column, featuring a swelling stone base adorned with the City of London arms. The pump has a cap decorated with swirls, a curved cast-iron handle, and a cast-iron trough mounted on a stone base. The manufacturer's name, 'Turner, Dorset St, Fleet St London,' is inscribed in raised letters around the neck below the cap. This pump is notable for predating the reconstruction of the dormitory blocks in the school yard by about 100 years.
