Description

Battles Hall is a partly moated, timber-framed building dating from circa 1660. The house incorporates materials from an earlier building on the site and was the seat of the Waad family until the later 17th century. The ground storey was faced with brick, and the upper storey was plastered during a later renovation. The house has two storeys, attics, and cellars. A two-storeyed entrance porch projects from the front elevation. The upper storey has a one-one-two window range, while the ground storey has a two-two window range. Most windows are double-hung sashes with glazing bars. An original mullioned and transomed window with leaded lights is located on the south side of the porch. The doorways retain their original frames, and an original panelled door is located inside. The roof is tiled and hipped at the north and south ends, featuring an original central chimney stack with a moulded brick stringcourse at its base.
