Description

The stables at Boyles Court Farm date from the late 19th century and are constructed of red brick and timber-framing with a tiled roof. The building features two U-shaped courts that are positioned back to back, with the principal court facing north. The northern court is single-storey and has a canopy all around supported by Tuscan columns, with trellised ends. A central timber-framed feature includes a two-window range with a central stack that rises from the principal roof. The windows break through the eaves and consist of three casements, each with glazing bars arranged in 2x3 panes. The wings of the court end in Dutch gables, which have oval windows adorned with four keystones, stone dressings below, and clasping buttresses topped with ball finials and a dentilled cornice.

Stable doors and segment-headed windows surround the court, with some alterations including a door that cuts through a window and the blocking of an old doorway. Below the central feature, there are two windows designed in the Norman Shaw, Ipswich style, similar to those on the north face of the adjacent barn. Each of these windows is two-light with glazing bars arranged in 1x4, 3x4, and 1x4 panes, featuring a central arch glazing bar that rises from a transom. An arched opening leads to the interior at the eastern inner corner.

The east and west end elevations are styled similarly, with Dutch gabled ends on the principal range, each having a three-light casement window with a transom and glazing bars, totaling 6x5 panes. A stack is located at the eastern end. The wings contain three three-light casement windows with glazing bars, each with a total of 6x2 panes. The rear southern court is more plain, with the eastern wing being longer than the western. The gable ends are simple but enhanced with oval windows featuring four keystones. The principal range has a narrow three-light window and two large door openings leading to the interior. Stable doors are present in the wings, while the east and west ends have similar casement windows to those in the northern court. The west gable includes a stable door and side light next to an adjacent boarded door, while the east gable has a segment-headed window. The stables and the adjacent barn form a cohesive group.
