Description

Chew's House is a circa 1715 building of brown-red brick with red dressings and quoins, situated on the east side of High Street. It has a Welsh slate roof. The building is two storeys high and features five sash windows with flat arches. The entrance has an 8-flush-panel, 2-fold door with an oblong fanlight, and a cornice hood supported by consoles. Above each console is a stone blocking course featuring a small figure of a black boy dressed in contemporary English attire, complete with a white collar and buttons. The gable end of the roof has a moulded open pediment, within the tympanum of which is a plaque containing a clock face. A tall, white-painted cupola sits astride the pediment, featuring a square drum and a circular bell turret. The building forms a group with Nos. 65 to 75 (odd) and the front walls.
