Description
Craycombe House is a late 18th-century building, dating from 1791, and stands two storeys high. It is constructed of ashlar and features five windows. The lower storey has an arched treatment, while the doorcase is adorned with pilasters, sidelights, a swagged cornice, and an enriched fanlight above. The building has a moulded eaves cornice with urns. It was recently the home of the novelist Francis Brett Young, who is mentioned in an article from July 6, 1940. The interior is noted for its quality, designed by architect George Byfield, and includes a staircase with an iron balustrade and a round skylight.
