Description

Broom House is probably an early 17th-century building, located on Old Station Road in Ashton Fields. It is a two-storey and attic building with two windows, constructed of ashlar sandstone. The end gables feature close-set studding. A continuous moulded string course runs around the building, rising to form hood moulds above the transomed and mullioned stone windows, which have metal casements and leaded lights. To the west, a lower two-storey wing adjoins the main house. This wing is of square timber framing, partly rebuilt in 18th-century plain brickwork. A further extension to the south is of simple mid-19th-century brickwork. The roof is mainly old tiles. Broom House and the associated farm buildings to the west form a notable group.
