Description
Nos 2, 4, and 6 Hylton Street are a row of three small two-bay houses dating from around 1840, located at the corner with Vyse Street in Hockley, Birmingham. The houses are constructed of red brick and feature a stucco plinth and a first-floor sill band. There is a frieze with an egg and dart design that returns for one bay to Vyse Street. The roofs are half hipped and covered with slate, having flat eaves.
The windows are revealed three-over-four pane sashes, with scrolled acanthus leaf consoles on either side of stucco heads, moulded cornices, and blocking courses, along with stucco sills. Notably, No 6 has only one window on each floor. A modern casement window has been inserted into the ground floor of No 2.
The doorways are framed by Ionic columns with deep entablatures, which are coupled between Nos 4 and 6. Each house has four-panel doors with marginal glazed rectangular fanlights, accessed by two stone steps. The columns are supported by moulded bases on plinths.
