Description

Meon Hall is a house dating back to the 16th century, which was restored and significantly enlarged during the 19th century after a fire. It is constructed of limestone ashlar with slate roofs and stone stacks, both cross-axial and at the ends. The house follows a double-depth plan, incorporating a cross wing and a service range to the right.

The main façade is two storeys high and has a three-window arrangement. A cross wing projects forward on the right. Features include a chamfered plinth and a continuous label mould above most of the ground floor. The entrance is within a re-entrant stone porch with a four-centred arch and a half-glazed door. The ground floor has a three-light, 19th-century canted bay with a hipped roof on the left, and a two-light recessed ovolo-mullioned window with a label mould on the right. The first floor has two-light mullioned windows flanking a tall cross-mullioned window. A similar three-light attic window is set within the gable, all with label moulds.

The right return features a wing with a small catslide outshut and two stacks with brick diagonal shafts; there are also double-chamfered mullioned windows. The left return has gables with end stacks and wide verges. The rear elevation has an entrance to the right of the cross wing, featuring a three-centred head and a half-glazed door, with a small chamfered light to the right. The wing's ground and first floors have a two-light window, while the attic has a three-light half-dormer and a two-light window, all with label moulds. The service wing includes a two-light window to the left of the entrance and a single-storey wing constructed of dressed stone.

The interior contains the original staircase and fireplaces. The group value stems from the building's significant contribution to the character and heritage of the area.
