Description
Overton Hall is a farmhouse dating to the late 17th century, with additions from the early 19th century and alterations in the 20th century. It is built of coursed sandstone with a stone slate roof, verge parapets on shaped kneelers, and gable end stacks. The house has a late ‘T’ plan, incorporating a hall and a parlour cross wing, with an extension added to the lower end in the 19th century.
The entrance front is divided into two sections. The left side is the original 17th-century house, two storeys and an attic, with a projecting gable to the left, featuring two windows. It contains 20th-century casements in chamfered surrounds that were formerly mullioned. There is a string course at first floor level, and a boarded door is set against the cross wing. To the right is a lower, flush, early 19th-century wing, with two windows. This wing includes a round arched stair window with a block transom to the left, and a three-light block mullioned casement to the first floor, offset to the right, with a 20th-century casement below, centered. A massive double flue stack rises behind the ridge at the junction of the two parts of the building.
