Description
A U-shaped range of three barns, likely dating from the late 18th or early 19th century, with later additions and alterations. The barns are constructed of uncoursed limestone rubble with triangular air vents and have slate roofs. They form a U-shape around what was formerly a farmyard. A possible former horse engine house is attached to the central range on the north side, and a gabled outbuilding is attached to the west range. The barns are two stories high. The central range has wide, opposing double doors in the centre, with scattered segmental-headed windows and doorways on either side. Similar openings are found on the east and west ranges, and there are pigeon nesting holes and ledges on the gable of the east range. Inside the main range is a cowshed located under a hayloft. The collar and tie beam roof trusses were raised in the 19th century to create a double-purlin roof structure. Coston Manor is not part of this listing.
