Description

A farmhouse, likely dating from the 15th century, with alterations and additions from the 19th and 20th centuries. The house is timber-framed with a rendered finish, a plinth of uncoursed rubble, and refaced end walls. It has rendered brick additions to the rear and a graded slate roof. Originally a 2-framed bay open hall with a screens passage, it also features a 2-framed bay low end and a 1-framed bay high end. The house is two stories with a gable-lit attic. The timber framing displays square panels. A stack is positioned off-centre to the left of the front ridge, with another stack at the rear and a 20th-century end stack on a wing to the rear. The front has four window bays; three first-floor windows are 19th-century casements on the right, and a glazing bar sash on the left. The ground floor has a 19th-century glazing bar sash window to the left, and a 20th-century bowed casement off-centre to the right. A half-glazed door is set within a gabled porch, situated off-centre to the left between the first and second windows from the left, while a 19th-century boarded door with a three-light overlight is on the right. The right-hand gable end reveals an exposed queen strut truss. Internally, the queen strut roof trusses have V-struts above, trenched double purlins, and windbraces, with smoke blackening evident in the hall and screens bays. The hall boasts a central jointed-cruck truss with a continuous chamfer, arch bracing to the collar with V-struts above, and an Alcock apex type E. There is an inserted stack, and a ground floor fireplace with a moulded, straight-sided arched lintel.
