Description

A row of five cottages, now four, located on Main Street, Stanford on Soar. The building dates to the late 18th century and was extensively remodelled in 1836. It is constructed of red brick, with some ashlar and rubble. The roof is covered in plain tiles, with two ridge stacks and two lateral red brick stacks. It features dogtooth eaves and a dentil and raised brick band to the first floor. The building is two storeys high and twelve bays wide. The sixth bay from the right is gabled, with a brick coped gable, kneelers, and a single ridge finial. The rightmost bay, and the two bays to the left, project and are also gabled. The left gable has a brick coped gable with kneelers, and the lower parts of these left bays include a rubble plinth. The front features a single casement window, a doorway with a part-glazed door, a blocked doorway, two tripartite casement windows, another doorway with a 20th-century door, an archway containing a wooden gate, a further doorway with a part-glazed door, two tripartite casement windows, a blocked doorway and a single casement. The upper windows consist of four tripartite casements and single smaller casements in the outer gabled wings. A painted plaque decorated with crests and inscribed "1836" is located in the apex of the central gable. The apex of each outer gabled wing contains a single oval recessed blind panel. All window and door openings have ashlar lintels. The building is included on the list solely for group value.
