Description

Packington Mill is a 17th and 18th century mill and cottage, now derelict. It is constructed of red brick, with a small diapered section, featuring brick dentilled eaves and a plain tile roof to the front, while the rear wing has a Swithland slate roof. The building is two storeys high, with doors positioned above one another and two window openings to the left; one of these windows has a cambered lintel. An outshut extends from the left end, with rubble stone walling and a window frame above. A door is located in the outshut to the right. The right gable has two window openings and a blocked door, also with a cambered lintel. A wing projects to the rear, featuring a door, window openings, and a ridge stack. Internally, an overshot waterwheel and machinery remain. The site is referenced in the Domesday Book as having a mill. Ashton, in Leicestershire Water Mills, 1977, page 74, provides further details.
