Description

Central Baptist Church, formerly known as United Baptist Church, was built in 1830. The church features a stuccoed front with a parapet and stands two storeys tall. The first floor has pilasters that support an entablature with a cornice and frieze decorated with honeysuckle. There are four windows, with the ends projecting slightly, featuring round arches and moulded architraves with glazing bars. The ground floor is rusticated, with slightly tapered windows at the ends that have shouldered architraves. The central section has two fluted Doric columns in antis that support an entablature above a recessed entrance. This entrance includes a wide panelled door, a rectangular fanlight, shouldered architrave, flanking pilasters, and large windows with panelled surrounds. The building is constructed of brick behind the stuccoed facade and has a slate hipped roof.
