Description
Bay Hall, dating from the 16th century, is a timber-framed building that was restored in 1895, as noted by a plaque. It consists of Nos 23 to 27 on the north side, with No 25 featuring a projecting gable end from the original solar or office wing. The building has two storeys plus the gable. The ground floor is finished with hammer-dressed stone and includes two single-light and one three-light stone mullioned windows, with chartered mullions. The first floor displays vertical studs in the center and diagonal studs on either side, along with an oriel window that has a tripartite casement. The gable end is jettied and includes a king post with studs aligned parallel to the rafters, topped with a finial. The roof is made of stone slate. The gable end at the rear shows similar studs internally but is tile-hung on the outside. Nos 23 and the western part of No 25 retain posts and an aisle plate that likely belong to the original house, although they appear to have been modified in 1895, with a lean-to outshut at the rear featuring a catslide roof. No 27 seems to be a one-storey extension from the mid-19th century, but it may also be a re-casing of part of the old house.
