Description
The Old Vicarage is a vicarage that has been converted into a house. It dates from the early to mid-19th century and has undergone some alterations and additions at the rear. The building is constructed of yellow brick in Flemish bond and features a slate roof. It has an L-shaped layout, with the former two-room central entrance hall now serving as a two-room Garden Front. The stair hall and entrance are located to the rear right, while the kitchen wing is positioned to the rear left.
The south Garden Front is two storeys high and consists of three bays, arranged symmetrically. It has a chamfered plinth and pilasters with moulded stucco capitals at the corners and flanking the central bay. The entrance features a Doric doorcase with fluted pilasters, an entablature adorned with triglyphs and mutules, a cornice, and a hood. There is a recessed glazed door beneath a moulded cornice, which is topped with an overlight that has geometric glazing in a panelled reveal. The windows are 16-pane sashes, set beneath stucco cambered arches with projecting cills. A stucco band runs along the first floor, where similar windows with 12-pane sashes are located above the entrance. The building has a bracketed eaves cornice and a hipped double-span roof to the right, with an axial stack at the rear left and another stack at the rear right.
On the right side, there is a narrow rear section that is set back, featuring a two-fold recessed six-panel door beneath a deep hood supported by a pair of iron tie-rods from above. Inside, the stair hall includes fluted pilasters that support a moulded elliptical arch, an open well staircase with a ramped and wreathed handrail, turned column balusters, and newels. The ground floor left has a dado rail and a moulded cornice, along with window shutters and six-beaded-panel doors framed by fluted architraves.
