Description

26 Flour Square is a house, now used as an office and store, located in The Docks area of Grimsby. It was built in the early 19th century and has undergone minor alterations since then. The building is constructed of red brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with some parts rendered on the left side and rear. The roof is covered with Welsh slate on the sides and front, while the rear has concrete tiles. The layout features a double-depth plan with a central entrance hall and stairs located to the left.

The exterior is two storeys high and has a symmetrical three-window arrangement. The round-arched entrance has a step leading to a recessed doorcase flanked by Doric columns, topped with a moulded cornice and a radial fanlight with margin lights set beneath a stone arch. The original door is currently boarded over. The ground floor features original 6/6 sash windows with stone sills beneath cambered wedge lintels. The first floor has 20th-century 1/1 sash windows in similar original openings. The building has a wooden eaves board and a hipped roof, with one chimney stack on the right and two on the left.

On the left side, there is a recessed central section with a tall round-headed staircase window that has glazing bars. To the right, there is a 6/6 first-floor sash window and a 20th-century 1/1 sash window in the original opening. The right side has two doors with boarded-up overlights beneath cambered wedge lintels, one 6/6 ground-floor sash window, and three first-floor windows, two of which are 6/6 sashes, while one has a 20th-century casement in an original opening.

Inside, the building retains original features such as an open-well staircase, panelled doors, window shutters, and moulded cornices.
