Description

Worsley House is a former home for orphan girls, later converted into an old people’s home, built in 1914 by John Bilson of Hull. The building is constructed of brick with ashlar dressings and has a plain tile roof, featuring two side wall and two rear wall stacks. It is designed in a late 17th-century Domestic Revival style.

The building has a plinth and a first-floor band, and is arranged over two storeys with an eleven-window range. The windows are glazing bar sashes with slightly segmental heads. A central projecting bay, faced in ashlar, features an eighteen-pane sash window with an eared and shouldered surround. To the left of this, there is an eighteen-pane sash, followed by two twelve-pane sashes. To the right are three twelve-pane sashes. Below, the entrance has a moulded ashlar doorcase flanked by rusticated pilasters, leading to a panelled door. The flanking wings have dentillated open pediments and two eighteen-pane sashes on each floor. The returns of the building have two through-eaves pedimented dormers.
