Description

Elmtree House is a house dating from 1834, built for John Hebblewhite. It is constructed of ashlar stone to the main front elevation, with white brick to the sides and rear, stone dressings, and a cast tile roof. The main part of the house is two storeys high with three bays, accompanied by single-bay, two-storey, pedimented wings. The front features rusticated quoins and a moulded plinth. The central entrance has a glazed and panelled door with an overlight featuring vertical glazing, set within a Greek Doric porch. Flanking this are wide, full-height, tripartite window openings with margin-pane glazing, each with pilasters, frieze, cornice, and blocking course. The first floor has two-light casements with margin-pane glazing set within eared architraves, with a moulded sill band. A moulded band sits beneath a mutule cornice with a blocking course. The cross wings each have two-light French windows with margin-pane glazing within an architrave, topped by a segmental pediment on consoles. The tympanum of the pediments is decorated with carved foliage and shields. The first floor of the wings also has two-light casements with margin-pane glazing in eared architraves, and a mutule cornice with a pediment. Axial stacks rise from the roof. The roof is hipped.
