Description
The Sessions House is a building constructed between 1804 and 1814 by J P Pritchett. It features a central block with a Greek Ionic tetrastyle stone portico, flanked by low one-storey wings. The two-storey central block has three arched windows on the first floor, two of which are located in the wings. The building is made of white brick with stone architraves and cornices surrounding the sash windows, and it has stone dressings. The central doorway is detailed with an architrave, frieze, cornice, and consoles. The rear wall of the central block is curved. The roof is covered with Westmorland graded slates and extends over the portico to create a pediment, which features a tympanum carved with the coloured Royal Arms, topped by a figure of Justice. There is a later addition of a two-storey wing to the right, built in yellow brick, which has seven windows with stone lintels and a band at the first-floor cill end.
