Description

Danthorpe Hall is a large house dating to the late 17th century, with a rear wing added in the late 18th century and a cross wing in the mid-19th century. The original main range is built of red brick, with rendered and pebbledashed surfaces, grey brick dressings, and slate roofs. It is two stages high and five bays wide, arranged as 2:1:2. The corners have rusticated quoins, and there is a plinth. The front door is a 19th-century panelled door within a gabled porch, flanked by four-pane sash windows with sills. Matching sash windows are on the first floor. A large rear wall stack is located in the left bay. On the left side of the building, the ground floor features a pair of brick panels with raised square motifs, topped by a dentil-moulded quarter-round cornice and brick pediments. A room to the right of the front door is entirely lined with late 17th-century panelling, featuring moulded rails and muntins. The early 19th-century staircase has a cut string, scrolled tread-ends, re-used 18th-century turned and spiral balusters, and a moulded handrail.
