Description

The Golden Lion Public House, dated 1769 as inscribed on a date stone, is a building of group value. It is constructed with rough cast rendering and stone dressings, covered by a stone slate roof. The building is three storeys in height, with five bays. The second bay is recessed and two storeys high, while the first bay is recessed and one storey high. The second bay features a top cornice, and the third, fourth, and fifth bays have a frieze incorporating the date stone and a cornice. The windows have rusticated wedge lintels and moulded sills, and most are fitted with 20th-century louvred shutters. The majority of the windows are sash windows, lacking glazing bars, although the second-floor windows are casements. A round-headed entrance is accentuated by a Doric doorcase with flat pilasters and an open pediment, leading to a six-panel door. Three brick gable-end stacks are present.
