Description

This is a farmhouse, likely built in the mid-18th century with 19th-century alterations and containing remnants from the 17th century, along with a barn probably dating to the late 18th century. The farmhouse is constructed from sandstone rubble with a stone slate roof. It is two storeys high and originally comprised four bays. The left-hand bay was added later and features sash windows with simple stone surrounds. The second bay has a ground-floor window with chamfered jambs characteristic of the 18th century. The first-floor window of the third bay is similar, while the fourth bay has windows with chamfered stone surrounds also of 18th-century style. A gabled porch, located in the third bay, has an outer door with long-and-short jambs and an inner door with a plain stone surround, aligned with a straight joint on the right-hand side. Chimneys are present on the left-hand gable and to the right of the porch. Inside, a baffle entry is in line with the hearth. One ceiling beam, positioned to have once been a firehood bressumer, suggests an origin for the house in the 17th century. The adjoining barn to the east has a left-hand doorway with plain reveals and a reset 17th-century chamfered triangular-headed doorway. Further right is a door with a plain stone surround. At the upper level, two pitching doors have plain reveals, followed by a wide entrance with a steel lintel. The shippon end projects forward on the right with an opening in its front wall. The right-hand gable features a coping with kneelers, two shippon doors with long-and-short jambs, and a small window with plain reveals between them. Above the window is a pitching hole.
