Description
Ashfield House is an early 19th-century house, now divided into two dwellings. It is located on the west side of Cooper Street, Saddleworth. The house is constructed from watershot, hammer-dressed stone with a graduated stone slate roof. It has a double-depth central-staircase plan, three storeys, and small additions to the left and rear.
The three-bay front features a projecting plinth, a first-floor band, an eaves cornice, and raised quoins. The central entrance has a six-panel door with an overlight, set within a rusticated surround and topped with a keystone lintel. The windows are stone mullioned: two-light, flat-faced windows flank the central door, and a single-light window is located in the centre bay. Gable chimney stacks are present. A blocked taking-in door is visible to the right gable. The rear elevation, largely obscured by an extension, has three- and four-light windows.
