Description

Poole Farm House is a farmhouse of likely mid-17th century origin, though it appears as an early 19th-century building with 20th-century alterations and additions. The house is constructed of red brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with a machine tile roof at the front and older tiles to the rear. It is two storeys high and originally three bays wide, with a later four-bay rear wing forming a “T” shaped plan. Corner pilasters feature a half-brick deep projection and a three-course-deep band at the first-floor level. A 20th-century fully glazed door is set within a large, half-glazed, gabled porch with a side door. Large aluminum casement windows have replaced the original sash windows. There are gable end stacks and bargeboards. The rear wing also has 20th-century aluminum or wood windows. Inside, the entrance hall contains a 17th-century six-panel oak door, and there are also Georgian six-panel softwood doors. The lounge features two bevelled beams and an inglenook beam. The staircase is made of oak, with cut and bracketed string, turned balusters and newel posts. Six-panel oak doors are found at the first floor level.
