Stable Block Circa 20 Yards West of Toft Hall

This is a stable block dating from the late 18th century, located approximately 20 yards west of Toft Hall. Constructed of red English garden wall bond brickwork, it has a slate roof and a timber and lead clock turret and bellcote. The building is two storeys high and follows an L-shaped plan.

The courtyard frontage is L-shaped, forming a roughly symmetrical facade. A central feature, positioned at a 45-degree angle, contains a cambered arch to the ground floor. Above this arch is a window with three sash panes arranged two over one, and to the left is a cambered-headed door with stone hinge dressings. The first floor has a matching window with three sash panes arranged two over one, also with a cambered head. A stone parapet tops the structure, incorporating gutter holes. The octagonal clock turret features leaded sides and an octagonal domed bellcote, supported by wooden pillars and railings in an X-pattern.

Flanking the central feature are ranges of four bays. The two bays closest to the centre on each side each have two ground floor windows with three sash panes arranged two over one, each with a cambered head. Above these are oval windows with stone surrounds and cross-pattern glazing. One side projects slightly. This section features a cambered-headed stable door with stone hinge dressings to the left and an undivided doorway to the right. A blind stone sill is located to the left, and a three-paned sash window mirrors the surround to the right. The other side mirrors this arrangement, but with the doors reversed and closer together. A ground floor window with three sash panes arranged two over one is placed to the left. A loft doorway sits on a stone sill to the right. To the left of the left-hand side, slightly recessed, are four further bays, with stone-surrounded oval openings blocked on the first floor, except for one with cross-pattern glazing. Two cambered-headed doorways are positioned centrally on the ground floor, flanked by sash windows with three panes arranged two over one.

To the right of the right-hand block, also slightly recessed, are three bays, featuring lateral oval openings at first floor level; the left-hand one is blocked, while the right-hand one has cross-pattern glazing and a loft door. Five 20th-century openings are present on the ground floor, underneath an iron girder. Three openings have double doors, while two have been infilled with brick and now contain 20th-century windows with three panes arranged four high. A single-storey 20th-century addition extends to the right.
