Description

Kirby House is a house, likely originally a weaver's dwelling, probably dating from the early 18th century. It was restored in 1981 for the Teesdale Buildings Preservation Trust. The house is constructed of coursed squared stone with quoins and ashlar dressings, and has a roof of stone slates with a stone ridge, gable copings, and chimneys. It is three storeys high, with a three-window front. The central ground-floor entrance is a renewed six-panel door with a three-pane overlight, set in a plain stone surround. The ground floor originally had two inserted doors, which have since been replaced by wide windows with wood mullions and paired 12-pane sashes in plain stone surrounds. The first-floor windows are similar, with paired 16-pane sashes, and the second floor has a central fixed light of nine panes, with a central opening pane, and flanking paired sashes. The roof has stone gable copings on cyma-moulded kneelers. The interior has not been inspected.
